The giving student- How Kya Bliss approaches dance

By February 22, 2016February 14th, 2019No Comments

Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre/Northwest/ Northwest company dancer, Kya Bliss approaches dance from two perspectives- as the performer and as the audience. Her technique honors both her extensive training, and it designs a conscious experience for her audience(s).

She began her journey into the world of performance as a gymnast. Later, under the guidance of her mother who is also a respected dancer, Kya Bliss discovered her own passion for dance. Attending the Five College Dance Consortium in Massachusetts and the Arts Umbrella Graduate Program in Vancouver, BC, Bliss pursued ballet and contemporary performance arts. As a Pacific Northwest artist she is currently working with House of Aquarius and excited to be part of the Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre/Northwest/Northwest in 2016. In the words of Bliss, she believes that “performance should be more than a mere spectacle. It should be a gift to the spectators; something so powerful and moving that it becomes ingrained within the collective memory…”
